The welding must be nearly finished, because I have started wandering around the car with a paint brush and cracked open a can of Hammerite. I might actually regret the latter, as I read somewhere that it is difficult to overpaint the stuff with anything other than Hammerite, and even then it sometimes reacts with itself. That takes some doing - I would say that Hammerite has issues and that being the case needs to have a word with a shrink.
Anyway, now that the underside is painted, the plan is to leave the paint to set (for about 4 years, according to some) and then cover it in Schutz or similar. For that, by the way, I will need a new compressor to replace the tiny Fiac item I have owned for years. If you know of one for sale in the UK, do let me know!

I also thought it was time to fit the steel round blanking plates to the floor pan, so they were duly sprayed with primer and bonded in using Evostik Liquid Metal. The blurb about this stuff on the Halfords website says "Even easier than welding!" - damn, I wish I had know that when I started this restoration, as I'd have sprayed the whole car with it.
